My mama used to make this. One of my favorite meals. Fairly quick and easy. It can be made totally from scratch or it can be cheated with canned and instant. I’ll tell you how to do both. I cheated this time!

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 medium onion chopped
  • 1 large carrot finely chopped
  • 1 celery rib finely chopped
  • 3 Tbsp flour
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/4 tsp pepper
  • 3 cups mashed potatoes

How To Make

Brown ground beef and onions until meat is no longer pink.

Add carrots and celery or add a can of mixed veges like I did here. (One cheat)

Add flour.

Add beef broth.

Add Worcestershire sauce.

And add pepper.

Stir all together and simmer for 15-20 if using raw veges; 5-10 if using canned veges. You want to thicken the broth.

While the meat mixture is simmering make the mashed potatoes. I used instant (cheat #2). You can make them from scratch if you want. You can also add some shredded cheese to the potatoes as well.

Transfer meat mixture to a greased baking dish and top with potatoes.

Of course spread the potatoes over the meat. Bake at 350 F for 20-25 minutes or until heated through. Good meat and potatoes meal, don’ t you think?
