I found this recipe in an old cookbook. I think those recipes are the best. This bread is moist and deee-licious!


Ok, before I list the ingredients I must apologize for the poor quality of pictures. My Man borrowed my camera today and all I had was my phone.

  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 1/4 cup applesauce
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 3/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup raisins (optional)
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)

How to make

In a mixing bowl, cream butter and sugar.

Add egg and applesauce; mix well.

Mix together flour, salt, baking soda, cinnamon and nutmeg.

Gradually add to the creamed mixture just until combined.

I left out the raisins and nuts. My kids don’t like them. This is where you would fold them into the mixture.

Pour into a greased 8 x 4 x 2 loaf pan. (That’s inches of course) Bake at 350 F for 50-55 minutes or until knife inserted comes out clean. Cool for 10 in pan before removing to a wire rack.

Slice and enjoy!
